Outline Checklist

The Purdue Owl Guide offers a more comprehensive and worthwhile guide to outlining.

o Title

o Is it clear? Reflects the content of the paper?

o Introduction with thesis

o Are the major points in the argument present?

o Does it appear these correspond to paragraphs? Would each point in the outline make a topic sentence for a paragraph?

o Is there enough detail? Do the points in the outline reflect research and knowledge of the topic? Does contain vague and ambiguous statements?

o Do the points proceed logically? Do you understand the organization?

o Do you get a sense of the narrative of the paper? What is the story being told and the argument being made?

o Conclusion

o Is it clear? Does it agree with the Introduction and thesis?
